Artist Statement

Landscape is my inspiration.

I spend time observing nature in constant flux working en plein air drawing and sketching. Intrigued by the shapes, forms, patterns, textures, light and excited by colour.

My work conveys a personal response to the natural environment with a sense of freedom to unravel the complexities of nature as I see it. Feeling the paint on the brush, scratching the surface with my fingers and using sticks found in the bush. My first brush marks on the canvas are energetic and exciting.

I work in an intuitive and gestural way putting who I am into the artwork, using memory and different materials to create a visual metaphor to engage the viewer.

I develop my sketchbook images into contemporary paintings in oil, acrylic and mixed media.
